“Opscap”: Victor Project’s Transition to Operations

2009

Tony Copland, Brian Leonard Rausch,

The execution of Victor Project, Ontario’s first diamond mine located in James Bay, was presented to CIM last fall. To augment the succesful construction of the project a highly prepared “Opscap” (operations capability) program was embeded in parallel with the design-build of the new mine. This presentation describes the structuring and methodologies applied to prepare the operations team along with all the support systems needed for them to perform. The presentation touches on the pivotal roles the operations team played during the design phase and commissioning phase within a fully integrated project execution group. Operations were able to ramp up to full production in three months, significaantly better than other recent De Beers new mine start-ups. (~115 words)
