Quantifying the rate of corrosion in selected underground mines

2009

Jean Francois Dorion, Edward Ghali,

This paper reports on a long term study on the performance of support systems under different corrosion environments in Canadian underground mines. It builds on earlier work by the authors where field data were complemented by atmospheric and water sample analysis as well as fractography and metallographic studies. This paper describes the field program whereby corrosion coupons were installed in several underground mines. The results of the analysis were used to quantify the observed rate of corrosion under different environments. These results are used to establish a preliminary estimate of the predicted corrosion rates under different conditions.
