Rapid Development: A Clear Understanding

Hard Rock development issues have been discussed in mining for a considerable time but the problems of conventional development are not understood. The term “Rapid Development” is used in the industry but the concept of rapid development has not been explained. No mine wants “slow development”. The financial advantages of rapid development have also not been explained. A clear understanding of the mechanisms that drive rapid development is needed. This paper will use a generic orebody to explain these concepts and give examples of work done in the field to advance the technology. Both research, equipment suppliers and consultants have input here and this is summarized.
