Rock mass characterization based on digital face mapping: a case study in an underground mine

2001

John Hadjigeorgiou, Patrick Côté,

This paper reports on the development of a new methodology for automatic construction of discontinuity trace maps, in underground mine environments, using digital face mapping. A case study is presented where the performance of the developed automatic image analysis procedures are evaluated with reference to results obtained from scanline mapping. The practical implications of this work lie in the development of quick, more efficient and safer techniques to rock mass characterisation.
