The Oxidation of Sulphide Minerals In the Sullivan Mine

This paper describes the research that has been conducted in an effort to understand the nature and causes of sulphide fires in the Sullivan Mine. Results of the investigation have led to several theories of the origin of the fires, the nature of the chemistry and a method for assessing the fire potential. Recommendations and the implications for the mining operation are also discussed.
