J. D. McDonald Electrical Design Engineer, The Consolidated Mining and Smelting Campany of Canada Ltd., Trail, B.C

The Bluebell mine of The Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company of Canada Limited extends under Kootenay lake, in southern British Columbia, and water control underground has always been a major problem. This paper gives a brief history of the operation, and then describes the methods used by Cominco to keep the combination of lake seepage, ground water and thermal s pring water under control. The pumping arrangements are described in considerable detail, with illustrations to show the various stages of development, and the power s upply system is outlined.
