Large scale investments by extractive industries are expected to bring broadbased benefits to local communities (e.g.: health, education, jobs, infrastructure). Investors continue to expect the demonstration of social performance. Specific interventions bring direct value to companies (e.g. skills development). Social Investments are key to protecting a company’s license to operate. Quantifying the value of these investments and planning accordingly, however, has long posed a challenge for the extractive industries and community development practitioners.
