Dust Protection Strategy for Critical Hoisting Equipment in an Upcast Potash Headframe

2016

Mr Bryan Macleod ( - Mosaic), Mr Chris McGuire ( - Hatch)

Mosaic’s K3 mine will operate two hoisting shafts approximately 400 m apart. The service shaft, containing both production and service hoists located inside the headframe tower, is in upcast air from the mine. This presentation will identify operational techniques to protect hoisting equipment from salt dust in the mine exhaust air by maintaining a downcast air flow throughout the headframe. Protection against upset conditions such as open collar doors and main fan outages will also be explored.
