Explosives choice at East Kemptville Mine

In October 1982, RioAlgom Limited, purchased a tin prospect near East Kemptville, Nova Scotia, from Shell Canada Resources. This purchase led to the development of the first substantial tin mine in North America. This paper deals with the drilling and blasting operations at Rio Algom, in particular the use of emulsion explosives technology. This presentation describes what emulsion explosives and Heavy AN/FO are, and the support system used to deliver these products to the blast site.
