On the Distribution of Fractures in an Oil Pay

CIM Bulletin, 1955

By ADRIAN B. SCHEIDEGGER

The possibilities of deriving pertinent information about fractures in an oil pay from data obtained by core analysis are investigated. It is shown that it is possible to obtain an estimate of the fractured area per unit volume of the pay, and that the size of the fractures can be estimated if their shape is known. A suggestion of a routine procedure for the analysis of fractures is given
