CIM Bulletin, Vol. 73, No. 824, 1980

I.E. TIBBETTS, CANMET, Energy, Mines and Resources Canada, Ottawa, A. ISMAIL, Montreal Engineering Co. Ltd. St. Catharines, Ontario

The paper takes its material from three peat mining and power project feasibility studies sponsored by CANMET and conducted by Montreal Engineering Company Ltd. in the years 1976 to 1980. The role which peat may play in the Canadian energy prospectus is outlined, estimated and measured fuel peat resources are tabulated, and the economic and technical feasibility of mining peat for power generation is reviewed.Recommendations are made for future work, and construction and disbursement schedules are developed for a combined peat mining and power generation project. The relationship between the mining of moss and fuel peat is discussed.
