Organization of Mining Research in Europe

CIM Bulletin, 1960

A. BROWN

The mining industry is no exception to the general rule that continuing research is essential to good management; in fact, because of the imperfect state of knowledge in regard to many important factors associated with a mineral extraction, mining research assumes a position of unusual importance. On the basis of a recent visit to mining research centres in a number of European countries, the author describes their organization and their role in the mining industries of these countries. Some observations are made on Canadian mining research efforts, with a view to indicating a more systematic basis of procedure.
