The recovery of copper from low-grade solutions resulting from dump leaching is well known, whereas the recovery from highly concentrated copper solutions has not been practiced. This paper discusses the use of Ashland Chemical's Kelex 100, a substituted quinoline, for the recovery of copper from solutions resulting from leaching copper-nickel concentrates. A flow sheet is described, and an economic comparison shows Kelex 100 to be superior to either the LIX 64N or LIX 70 reagents of General Mills for the recovery of copper.
