It is the objective of designed experiments to obtain more information for less material and process cost than can be obtained by traditional experimentation. In this paper, the fundamental concepts on which the statistical design of experiments is based are briefly reviewed according to the following outline: The Experiment The Design The Analysis Two simple 2" factorial experiments are presented as examples.
