Mineral exploration is an expensive speculative venture and calls for optimization of sampling. Exploration is generally planned in grid pattern to be conducted in phased manner. The objective of any such campaign is to assess the quality, quantity and its reliability. The traditional estimation methods are unable to provide a means of calculating the degree of reliability. Application of mathematical models can quantify the precision of estimation and bring forth decision-making criteria at any stage. In this paper three statistical and geostatistical models, viz., Frequency, Probability, and Semivariogram, have been employed to evaluate sequential exploration data of Rampura-Agucha zinc-lead deposit. The optimization in exploration for a specific objective has been highlighted.
