THE story of the efforts made by the Department of Mines of Nova Scotia in the search for and investigation of mineral resources for the Canadian war effort began in the spring of 1937. During the past five years , however, heavy enlistments in the Active Service Forces by employees of the mining industry of the Province caused a recession in the production of coal, sal t, and other essential minerals required to keep industry rolling on a wartime basis.
