SITUATED close to the continental shelf, Nova Scotia has been subjected to most of the epeirogenetic and orogenic movements chat have influenced the form and geology of the continent. All ages of rocks from Mesozoic to Precambrian are displayed within its relatively small area. Over much of ii: lies a mantle of glacial drift on which, thanks to a mild climate, forests and pasture lands flourish. Outcrops of bed-rock are far from abundant and, where they do occur, the many orogenic movements co which the beef-rock has been subjected make local interpolation difficult and broad extrapolations inaccurate.
