The Adams mine, operated by Jones & Laughlin MiRing Company, Ltd. and located near Kirkland Lake, Ontario, produces one million tons of iron ore pellets per year. This paper briefly describes the mining and concentrating operation and deals mainly with the operation of the pellet plant. The orebody consists of fine-grained magnetite and some hematite, with alternating layers of chert, and is mined by conventional open-pit methods. After crushing and grinding, the ore is concentrated by magnetic separation and flotation.
