The Production of Reactive Metals

CIM Bulletin, 1950

L.M. PIDGEON

IF THE oxides of the metals are listed in decreasing order of the magnitude of their heats of formation, the list appearing in Table I will be formed. It will be apparent at once that this is essentially the well-known electrochemical series (Table II). The metals at the bottom of the list exhibit great stability and are attacked only by the most violent of chemical reagents.
