Three Dimensional Inversion of Transient Magnetotelluric Data

2008

Inversion of magnetotelluric data in three dimensional environments has been mainly limited to two dimensional inversion of the TM mode impedance and/or bandwidth limited TE phase and tipper. While still requiring memory intensive workstations, full three dimensional inversion of magnetotelluric data is becoming more routine and extracts the maximum amount of information from the data in the most appropriate fashion. Both 2D and 3D inversions of a small transient magnetotelluric dataset will be displayed to highlight the advantages of full 3D inversion.
