Trends in the use of the computers in the mineral in the 1980's

CIM Bulletin, Vol. 72, No. 810, 1979

D. N. MADGE, Manager, Data Processing Services Cominco Ltd., Trail, B.C.

The use and development of industrial process control computers in the mineral industry during the 1970's has been sluggish. This cautious approach is due to lack of commitment by senior management. The lack of commitment is due to several reasons: variable mineral processes and technologies, market fluctuations, and excessive costs and inadequacies of applicable products supplied by computer vendors.
