The paper will discuss the role and value of performance indicators in addressing energy efficiency and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the mining industry. In particular, the paper will focus on the first year of MAC reporting on its new energy and GHG indicators, lessons learned, and changes made in the progression toward the development of a common annual assessment system and implementation progress. The management process and new operations performance indicators provide clear performance criteria and targets for MAC members, to help member companies address current and future expectations as well as demonstrate their commitment to TSM Guiding Principles.
