A New System of Hoist Brake Control

This paper describes the use of the Free Piston Valve, and a simple hoist brake control system, which has been developed over the last two year s, greatly improving the performance of low-pressure brake engines. The basic control system is outlined, with sections devoted to emergency trips and differential braking, and the application of the system to deep shaft hoisting is discussed.
