Advance in Mechanization in Collieries of the Sydney Coal-Field

CIM Bulletin, 1932

IN the operation of any colliery, a factor of prime importance is power, of which there are three sources available--man, horse, and mechanical. It is obvious that man-power is by far the most expensive, .and that animal-power, also, is more costly than mechanical. In recognition of this fact, mine owners must, for economical reasons, reduce the use of man- and horse-power to the minimum by the increased use of machinery.
