Advanced Control Concepts for Mineral Dryers

CIM Bulletin, 1971

J. C. HAWKINS, Minerals Industry Consultant, The Foxboro Company, Foxboro, Mass, U.S.A.

Determining moisture content and rate of flow of a solid product make measurement and control of dryers unusually difficult. This paper describes a method of accomplishing this with readily made air-temperature measurements. The system can cope with changes in feed moisture and feed rate. It does not measure solids temperature. The system's application to several typical rotary dryers is described, and control schemes using feedforward techniques are explained.
