Hoist rope improvements through thermo plastic enhancement

Friction winders and double drum winders have been used in the vertical shaft mining industry for over 100 years. In that time, there have been many changes made in the electronic and mechanical fields of hoisting, but few changes made in the manufacturing and performance of steel wire rope, until recently.
In the past ten years, with the advent of high polymer thermoplastics, the industry has seen some major advancements in steel wire rope. By incorporating a polymer with steel, improvement of rope life and reduction of costly maintenance downtime has been accomplished.
