There are a number of emerging opportunities to apply robotics in oil sands operations to address chronic issues in environments that can be hazardous to workers. This paper will describe technology options and potential benefits for several application areas, including bitumen production, maintenance, and reclamation. Issues of risk mitigation and operability and reliability will be discussed.
