Safe Choice: Understanding How Human Performance Impacts Decision Making

Safe Choice is the next phase in the ‘safety journey’ for Imperial’s Kearl Operations. Safe Choice empowers safe decision-making by providing new knowledge and techniques, and linking these to existing safety tools and practices. This approach helps individuals to be more consciously aware to make safer decisions. Safe Choice does NOT provide new safety tools or processes, but rather new ways of understanding how we think so that we can better utilize our safety tools. The presenters will review the driving force behind Safe Choice and the science of human performance in the decision making process. Further discussion points will include the delivery of Safe Choice to over 4000 employees and contractors in 2018 and the positive outcomes of the Safe Choice Journey to date.
