Safety in the mining industry is a multi-faceted risk management challenge, with direct performance impacts on a company’s regulatory compliance, internal policy management, brand, reputation and finances. By combining advanced information management techniques across multiple enterprise data sources with robust analytics, organizations are able to institute safety management programs that help establish the conditions and processes that optimize the safety of their workers, the environment and the surrounding communities in which they operate. In this paper, the author reviews strategies for improving mining safety and operating performance through the application of predictive safety analytics and knowledge management across the wealth of health, safety, security, environment, asset, maintenance, worker and operational data that companies maintain and manage today.
