The Côté Gold Project, Closing the Loop on Water Management

2014

IAMGOLD is planning the development of the Côté Gold Project in Northern Ontario, Canada. The project will be developed as a conventional open pit, truck/shovel operation processing 60,000 tpd per day of ore with an estimated mine life of 15 years. IAMGOLD has been working closely with the Provincial and Federal regulatory agencies and local aboriginal communities to promote a robust and harmonized assessment of the potential environmental effects. The presentation will highlight how the environmental assessment process was an important driver in identifying issues associated with water management on a site situated within the headwaters of an arctic river system. An overview of the unique water management strategy developed in response to the identified challenges will be used to demonstrate the value of permitting processes in reducing environmental risks and improving cost throughout the mine life cycle.
