The use of continuous materials handling equipment at the open cut mine face

2007

David John Morrison,

Scarcity of truck tyres, shifts in labour costs and increasing fuel costs have changed the paradigm behind mining equipment selections. These commodity changes have occurred in parallel to the increasing maturity of continuous mining machinery, mobile in-pit crushing systems and very large scale conveyor belt systems. This paper will consider the merits of operating continuous miners, mobile in pit crushing systems, relocatable crushing systems, relocatable conveyor systems and automated waste handling systems. Means whereby ore and waste can be extracted concurrently in a truck-free mine are also proposed.
