The Use of Hydraulic Cyclones in Preparing a Backfill Product
VERY EARLY in the initial stages of underground development work at Eldorado's Beaverlodge operation, the decision was made to use mill tailings as a backfill product. Mining and milling commenced in June, 1953, using locally available sand as backfill, while test work and installation of a plant was carried out to prepare and deliver the tailings to the mining areas. The first use of tailings was made in February, 1954, a sandslime separation being carried out with hydraulic cyclones.
