Autonomous Haulage Implementation at Teck Highland Valley Copper, A New Environment for the Technology

2019

Aaron Wylie, Teck Resources

In 2018 Teck began its Autonomous Haulage implementation at Highland Valley Copper with the goal of realizing the safety benefits and to understand if the technology can play a role in extending the mine life beyond its currently scheduled 2028 closure date.  In doing so Teck achieved the fastest CAT deployment globally to date with 6 trucks in operation by 11 months, the first of its kind in British Columbia and a new environment for the technology being a hard rock, deep pit, steep grade, northern climate mine.  This presentation will discuss key learnings and insights thus far on the journey.
